Shoppers asked to donate at registers to benefit returning military service members
As Ten Year Anniversary of 9/11 Approaches, Foodtown Supermarkets Kick-Off
Fundraising Drive for America ’s Troops
Article by James Fanous
In honor of the ten-year anniversary of the horrific attacks on 9/11 that affected the lives of all
Americans, Foodtown Supermarkets held the “Foodtown Supports Our Troops Kick-Off Event” on
August 12, 2011, to announce the start of their Dollar Donation Drive benefiting The G.I. Go Fund
and the returning combat troops.

The kick-off event honored Foodtown Chairman and CEO David Maniaci for his leadership in
assisting the men and women serving in our Armed Forces. Mr. Maniaci also serves as the owner of
the Foodtown stores in North Haledon and Cedar Grove, which were the top earning supermarkets
during previous donation drives for our military service members.

Previous Foodtown drives for the G.I. Go Fund have been tremendously successful, raising nearly
$100,000 for the organization and breaking store records in the process. The Drive will continue
through the weekend of the ten-year anniversary of the September 11 attacks.

“Without the support of Mr. Maniaci, his customers, and the entire Foodtown family, our organization
would not be able to provide the essential services our warriors need as they come home to the
country they defended. The patriotism on display at every Foodtown, from the owners to the
cashiers to the customers, is just inspiring,” said Jack Fanous, Executive Director of The G.I. Go
Fund.

Foodtown Supermarkets and The G.I. Go Fund encourage everyone to visit their local Foodtown
store and take part in this important event for America ’s troops.
“It has been 10 years since the
attack on our country and we will
Never Forget!” said Maniaci. “I feel
it is a privilege and our duty as
Americans to support the men and
women who fight in our armed
forces and to encourage great
programs like the G.I. Go Fund.”

The donation drive offers
shoppers the opportunity to give
$1 at the register upon checkout
to assist our troops. In addition,
donation cards will be displayed
with the names of customers and
loved ones throughout individual
Foodtown storefronts to show
further support for our returning
service-members.
