Where Veterans Go Forward

OritaniBank Charitable Foundation Awards over
$100K in Grants to Assist Local Veterans
Township of Washington, NJ - July 15, 2009 - The OritaniBank Charitable
Foundation announced today that it will donate over $100,000 to help New
Jersey men and women who have served in the armed services. The Foundation will allocate grants to the
Wounded Warrior Project, The G.I. Go Fund of Newark, the Teaneck Family Assistance Center, and the
Achilles Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans, four outstanding non-profit organizations offering important
services to New Jersey veterans.
The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) was created to honor and empower severely injured service
members. The WWP provides lifelong support to wounded veterans through a variety of services including
care packages, family assistance and benefits counseling as well as rehabilitation and advocacy programs.
The OritaniBank Charitable Foundation will award a grant of $50,000 to the WWP to help New Jersey
veterans on the road to recovery. This grant will contribute to the WWP's continuing efforts to ensure that
wounded service men and women in New Jersey receive the outreach, care, and benefits they deserve.
Newark's G.I. Go Fund assists returning veterans in locating suitable employment. Their most recent job
fair resulted in employment for over sixty veterans. In order to contribute to the continued success of this
program, the OritaniBank Charitable Foundation will provide a grant of $20,000 to underwrite the costs of a
job fair to be held in the fall in Bergen or Hudson County.
The OritaniBank Charitable Foundation will donate a total of $30,000 to the Teaneck Family Assistance
Center at the Teaneck Armory, which provides invaluable assistance to service members and families of the
250th Brigade Support Battalion of the NJ Army National Guard. The grant will underwrite the costs of the
Center's "Welcome Home Picnic" for returning veterans and their families to be held in August, and to
provide general financial assistance for the Teaneck Family Assistance food pantry. The Oritani Bank
branches' annual "Christmas in July" Food Drive will also benefit the Center's food pantry. All cash
donations will be matched by the OritaniBank Charitable Foundation.
The Achilles Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans provides training and motivation to wounded veterans
through distance running events. Many veterans begin their rehabilitation using hand crank wheelchairs,
which permit early access to sports programs. The Freedom Team competes in many races and marathons
throughout the year. The OritaniBank Charitable Foundation will donate $6,000 to cover the cost of two
wheelchairs for use in the New Jersey Veterans Center.
Kevin J. Lynch, President of the OritaniBank Charitable Foundation and Chairman, President and CEO of
Oritani Bank stated, "With so many service members returning to our community this year, we feel it is
important to reach out and provide financial assistance to the hardworking local organizations that help our
veterans on a daily basis."
The OritaniBank Charitable Foundation is offering these gifts to honor the memory of Marine Sgt. Matthew
Fenton of Little Ferry, NJ who lost his life as a result of wounds suffered while serving in Iraq in 2006.
Matthew was the son of Oritani Bank employee Diane Fenton.
The OritaniBank Charitable Foundation was established in 2007 to assist not-for-profit organizations that help
to improve the quality of life for residents in Bergen, Hudson, and Passaic counties. Since its inception, the
Foundation has donated close to a million dollars to local charitable organizations, primarily in support of
education, health & human services, youth programs, and affordable housing.
