Where Veterans Go Forward

G.I. GO Expands Outreach Efforts to Jersey City
The G.I GO Fund helped organize a VA Outreach for veterans in Jersey City this past week, giving soldiers a
chance to tell the department how it can improve its efforts in providing for our troops. Held at the One-Stop
Career Center in Jersey City, the event included a forum in which soldiers could ask direct questions to those
in a position to help.
G.I. GO President Jack Fanous was among those invited to speak. He explained to our veterans the services
G.I. GO offers in the form of transition assistance and VA Navigation assistance among other services.
“We are always getting calls from veterans who are having all sorts of problems, from maintaining steady
employment and coping with PTSD to keeping up with bills. Our organization is not focused on one
particular issue because we know each soldier deals with their own unique set of circumstances,” said
Fanous when addressing a soldier’s question during the designated Q&A.
Among those participating at the Outreach were First Lt. Johnny Ortega of the New Jersey Army National
Guard, who kicked off the event by leading the Pledge of Allegiance, and Mayor Jerramiah Healy of Jersey
City, who delivered the opening remarks.
The event is one in a series that G.I. GO has participated in, including ones held in South Brunswick and New
Brunswick. These outreaches offer our veterans valuable information regarding a vast array of services
available to them.
“These outreach programs have really given us the opportunity to provide relief to countless veterans, as
well as their families,” said G.I. GO VP Alexander Manis. “When we attended the VA Outreach in New
Brunswick, we informed the veterans in attendance of the importance of tackling PDT head on and the ways
we help in doing so.”
“It was a truly sobering reality to see the amount of veterans who took that to heart. They were frustrated
by the bureaucracy they have encountered since returning home and they clearly appreciated the support.
And so we will continue to organize more Outreach events so we may help more brave men and women
who work to fully reintegrate into civilian life,” added Manis.
Fanous echoed this sentiment, adding that “No veteran should feel forgotten. They must understand that all
Americans are grateful for the honorable service they have given to this country.”
