Article by: G.I. GO  Staff writer James Fanous

G.I. GO President Jack Fanous was the keynote speaker at the Veterans Day Ceremony at the Department
of Veterans Affairs in East Orange, New Jersey highlighting the many sacrifices our soldiers have made for
our country throughout the generations.

“We come to pay tribute to the millions of Americans, past and present, which have stood guard at freedom’
s door. We humbly thank those who fought to ensure that all Americans have the opportunity to live in a
world of democracy and freedom that was little more than a dream to our forefathers,” said Fanous during
his address.

“I can think of no better place to pay tribute to our nation’s veterans than here at the VA, where countless
dedicated citizens have made it their life’s work to honor and serve those who have given us the gift of
freedom, and the blessings of liberty,” he added.

The audience featured countless veterans who came to celebrate the hard work and courage that our armed
forces have displayed past and present. Many of these soldiers were accompanied by their family, a group
Fanous acknowledged as deserving recognition as well.

“These families bravely stood by, holding back tears, watching their husbands, wives, sons and daughters,
go off on a mission they recognized was of paramount importance. They, more than anybody, have a keen
understanding of the scope of these historic missions that have allowed America to prosper.”

Fanous further described how families are the key to helping in veteran transition.

“They are the ones, more than anyone, who help our veterans transition back to civilian life. They are the
ones who provide loving care that only a family member can to our injured veterans. They are the ones who
inspired me, and should inspire us all, in the most important mission of supporting our veterans.”

After his speech, Fanous stated how it is paramount for all Americans, young and old, to take action to
ensure that all of our veterans enjoy the benefits they have earned through their service.
